Gabriel Marquez really did something special with “One Hundred Years of Solitude”. My parents and aunts had this book as required reading back when they were in school and I can completely understand why. I truly wish I had read this book sooner. Not only was this book beautifully written, but there are so many lessons in it as well.
Lesson one, EVERYTHING CHANGES. Absolutely everything. As much as we try and wish things would go back to who we want them, they won’t. Life is a continuous cycle and there is nothing that can make it stop.
Lesson two, Love is one of the most powerful forces that exist, if not THE most powerful.
Lesson three, power absolutely corrupts. It’s sad to think about a person with such good intentions can really transform once given a large amount of power. You definitely have to have a solid group of people around you to stay grounded.
Lesson four, every individual has a story that needs to be told. Which is why I think it’s so important to be yourself, your true self. There is a reason we are they way we are and it’s best to explore our own personalities and develop our own beliefs.
I can go on and on with the lessons, but it would take forever. The book is truly a work of art and I encourage everyone to read it. It now holds a special place in my heart.
