“You deserve the best, the very best, because you are one of the few people in this lousy world who are honest to themselves, and that is the only thing that really counts.”
― Frida Kahlo
There is a Frida Kahlo exhibit at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx. It was sooo awesome. I took my little Les (daughter) there and we took a bunch of amazing pictures. I want my daughter to know about inspiring women and I want her to know that the world is hers. It is truly a blessing to be able to teach my daughter about people like Frida. Growing up I didn’t know much about inspiring women, besides my mother. So I truly cherish this.
I was a young teen when Salma Hayek introduced me to Frida. I remember watching HBO and it was one of those “in the making” specials that HBO does for upcoming movies. The movie was Frida and Salma Hayek was playing the part. It was then that I fell in love with both women, Frida and Salma. Salma spoke in detail of Frida and her passion really spilled over to how well the part was played. Both women are/were strong, fearless, passionate, and play by their own rules. I think most importantly they are/were confident women. Confidence is absolutely everything in life. It is what sets you apart from everyone else, it changes your aura, people perceive you differently and it affects how you carry yourself. Confidence will take you places you’ve dreamed of and beyond.
Confidence is something that I am still working on. Sometimes we make the mistake of letting life’s happenings alter our confidence. We let our mistakes and mishaps define us and it makes us feel a little smaller each time it happens. My goal is to own each of my mistakes and mishaps and instead of letting them make me feel small, I will use them as a confidence builder. Because of the mistakes…because of that mishap I am wiser and I will walk with my head high knowing that today I am a little smarter than yesterday. I am going to let my short-comings empower me and and fill me with confidence. #belikeFrida
